Located in the midst of several historical landmarks in Bandar Hilir, a new Sound & Light Show is expected to be unveiled soon. The latest Sound & Light Show will be named Heritage Park Melaka and will take the shape of a 17th century Dutch vessel named De Nassau 1602. De Nassau 1602 was a Dutch East India Company ship that sank off the coast of Tanjung Tuan in a famous naval battle with the Portuguese in Melaka in the year 1606 .
This 30-million Heritage Park Melaka will employ state-of-the-art audio-visual technology to showcase Malacca’s rich and colourful history. The previous Sound & Light Show was held in a 920 square metre open air theater that was originally built by the State Government in 1989 and managed by Perbadanan Muzium Melaka (PERZIM) through its subsidiary Sound and Light Sdn Bhd.
New and improved facilities of Heritage Park Melaka would include film footage, still images, special effects and live performances to make the show more lively and entertaining. During the daytime, there will be restaurant and live actors whereas in the eveining, there will be entertaining dinner shows consist of impressive theatrical experience, features on a 10,000 sq foot theater. There will be performance show by professional actors complemented by audio-visual effects, using the facades of historical buildings and monuments surrounding St Paul’s Hill as the backdrop. The show will be presented in eight different languages via a headphone and receiver equipped with digital infrared transmission system and will take visitors on an educational and informative journey through time.
