The Melaka State Government has announced an ambitious plan to develop a pioneer green city. The new city would be named Hang Tuah Jaya Green City and would be conceptualised after Putrajaya and Cyberjaya.
In order to encourage the use of green technology, the new Hang Tuah Jaya Green City would have the following features:
- Motorised vehicles would be limited
- Gazette an area within the city to be turned into a vehicle-free zone
- Assign a special lane for electric vehicles, bicycle lanes and pedestrian walkway
- Creating a charging station for electric vehicles
- LED or solar-powered street lamps
To encourage green building development, the State Government would outline technical guidelines which would compel developers to register for Green Building Index certification before completing their projects.Hang Tuah Jaya Green City will also have the following development:
- Building constructed using recycled items
- “Green” restaurants,
- Green technology academy,
- Nursing college,
- State health department administration complex,
- Internal Revenue Board academy,
- Medical college, and
- SOCSO rehabilitation centre.
