Book Village Malaysia Melaka (Kampung Buku Malaysia Melaka) was officiated by the Chief Minister of Malacca, Datuk Seri Hj. Mohd Ali bin Mohd Rustam, on 17 April 2007. It is currently managed by Hang Tuah Jaya Corporation which is a wholly owned state corporation.
Located in the Melaka Botanical Garden (formally known as the Ayer Keroh Recreational Forest), Book Village Malaysia Melaka is the second book village in Malaysia, the first being the Book Village Malaysia Langkawi in Lubok Semilang, Langkawi. Book Village Malaysia Melaka is the fifth book village in Asia and the 33rd in the world to be established. Being a member of the International Organisation of Book Towns (IOB) and the Book Town Movement, Book Village Malaysia Melaka adopts the concept of traditional book towns and villages that are similar to those in Berlin, Norway and Wales but slightly modified for local adaptations. There are more than 15,000 books in Book Village Malaysia Melaka that are available for reading, reference and purchase. Many of these books are supplied by resident publishers with additional support from the Malacca State Government.
Anjung Karyawan Melaka (translated as “Malacca Literature Corner”) was officially launched by the Chief Minister of Malacca,Datuk Seri Hj. Mohd Ali bin Mohd Rustam, on 25 July 2010. Located on the ground floor of Book Village Malaysia Melaka, Anjung Karyawan Melaka aims to serve as a reference and resource centre for books and reading materials concerning the State of Malacca. This also includes books written by writers originating from Malacca. The books range includes fiction, biographies, poems, history of Malacca, travel guides and tourism, culture and other genres. Many of these books were donated by publishers, government agencies and writers as they share the vision and objective of the Anjung Karyawan Melaka. Currently, the collection has more than 200 books and is constantly expanding.
Visitors and the members of the public can also donate books to Book Village Malaysia Melaka and all donated books will be inscribed with the name of the donor and the date of donation.
